The Big Picture Instruc-tion SAE FFA Proficiency Awards
What is the Proficiency Award Program about? (HO1) • Proficiency: Demonstrated competence in a specific area • Proficiency Award: A recognition of excellence in the area of occupational or scientific proficiency • Incentive: FFA provides the awards to motivate the student through recognition of accomplishment
Eligibility • Current, active FFA member • Applicant may have been out of high school no more than one year • If graduated, applicant must have completed 3 or more years of ag ed, or all the ag at the last school attended • Have maintained records adequate to substantiate the application
Types of Proficiency Awards • Entrepreneurship • Personal Ownership • Complete records • Completed at home, at school, or in community • Placement • Normally paid employment • Complete records • Agricultural work setting

Lessons Learned, Accuracy (HO7) • Same data may be used repeatedly • Application form must be consistent • Cross-check duplicated data points
Lessons Learned, Background (HO8) • Applicant meets eligibility requirements • Applicant provides background information • Complete but concise • Readable • Grammatically correct • Scope is logical given resources available
Lessons Learned, Inventory • Inventories are logical • Inventories are accurate and consistent • Inventory values reflect only undepreciated value remaining • Capital additions and repairs are reflected in inventory values • Only student share is reflected • Inventory cannot exceed scope
Computer Application (HO9) • Available from National FFA Supply Service • Any number of students can use • All Proficiency Awards on one program • Includes BOTH Proficiency Award and American Degree
