  3. From The Baptist Standard DALLAS—Last year, Texas Baptists baptized nearly 42,000 people. More than 4,000 of them had their boots on. About 125 cowboy churches are affiliated with the Baptist General Convention of Texas. They make up about 2 percent of BGCT congregations, but they performed roughly 10 percent of the baptisms last year. “We’re reaching people who are not phony, who are not putting on an act, who are not hiding who they are,” he (Charles Higgs, BGCT director of western-heritage ministries, awl) said. “They are beer drinkers. With those words, the vision of Cowboy Church was born. A place where Cowboys and Cowgirls could go to church without apology and without throwing away their heritage. The Cowboy Church of Ellis County exists first and foremost to reach western culture people for Jesus Christ. Deuteronomy 1:39 ‘Moreover your little ones and your children, who you say will be victims, who today have no knowledge of good and evil, they shall go in there; to them I will give it, and they shall possess it. Matthew 18:3 …“Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.”

The Lord’s Way • Includes grace and faith and repentance, but it also includes confession and water baptism. • Matthew 10:32-33 “Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. 33 But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven. • Mark 16:16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.

The Lord’s Way • There is no authority for entertainment as teaching or worship. • Colossians 3:17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. • The NT church wasn’t in the entertainment business. • John 6:26 Jesus answered them and said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled. • Teaching the saved and the lost the gospel, 1 Thessalonians 1:8 • Edification, Ephesians 4:15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— • Limited benevolence, Acts 11:29; 1 Timothy 5:3-16 • Leviticus 10:1-3
