  2. Skill Drill 25-1, Fire Fighter IIPerforming a Scene Size-up at a Motor Vehicle Crash 1. Size up the scene from inside the vehicle. Transmit the initial report over the radio. Establish command. 2. Perform a walk-around of the entire scene. Assess the hazards. Establish a secure work area.

  3. Skill Drill 25-2, Fire Fighter IIMitigating the Hazards at a Motor Vehicle Crash Don PPE, including SCBA. Assess the incident scene for hazards. Extinguish any fires. Eliminate sources of ignition. Cut a 6-inch section out of the negative battery cable. Cut a 6-inch section out of the positive battery cable.

  4. Skill Drill 25-3, Fire Fighter IIStabilizing a Vehicle Following a Motor Vehicle Crash 1. Lay out a tarp at the edge of the secure work area for staging tools and equipment, if indicated. 2. Chock both sides of one tire to prevent the vehicle from rolling. Notify command.

  5. Skill Drill 25-4, Fire Fighter IIBreaking Tempered Glass(1 of 2) 1. Attempt to lower windows as far as possible before breaking glass, and then select a tool. 2. Ensure that the victim and other fire fighters are properly protected.

  6. Skill Drill 25-4, Fire Fighter IIBreaking Tempered Glass(2 of 2) 3. Warn personnel with the verbal command “Breaking glass.” Break the lower corner of the window. 4. Remove any loose glass around the window opening with a tool. Follow this procedure until all glass has been removed.

Protect victims and notify command of the progress being made. Protect the vehicle occupants from glass when it is necessary to break glass.

Begin appropriate care. Begin packaging the victim for extrication. Communicate to the victim the care being given. Protect both the victim and rescuers from hazards.

  14. Skill Drill 25-9, Fire Fighter II Removing the Roof of a Vehicle(2 of 2) 3. Control the vehicle and protect against sharp edges at all times. Remove the roof to a safe location. Notify command when the roof is removed. Return the tools to the staging area upon completion of the tasks.
