Parts of the Hand Plane. Part Names & Definitions. Adjusting Nut - used to increase or decrease the depth of cut. Frame - body of the plane, determines it’s size. Frog - determines the angle that the plane iron is held at.

Part Names & Definitions • Adjusting Nut -used to increase or decrease the depth of cut. • Frame -body of the plane, determines it’s size. • Frog -determines the angle that the plane iron is held at. • Handle -used to apply pressure and direction at the rear of the plane. • Knob -used to apply pressure and direction to the front of the plane. • Lateral Adjusting Lever -used to regulate an even shaving thickness. • Lever Cap -holds the plane iron in place and prevents chatter. • Plane Iron -part of the plane that does the cutting. • Plane Iron Cap -gives stiffness to cutting edge, prevents chattering, and breaks shavings.
