Kokoda Front Line! • Is an Australian propaganda film from WWII about the ANZAC and militia troops fighting on the Kokoda trail It was made in by the Australian
Visuals • The movie constantly shows the Jungle, which is a unfamiliar territory to an Australian, as a harsh, dreadful place and thus describes the ANZAC’s making great sacrifice by fighting in those conditions • But since it is a propaganda film it does portray the ANZAC’s and other troops as very heroic, brave and resourceful. These are all Ideal ANZAC traits as well as traits average Australians aspire too
Speech • It is mentioned several times about how dreadful it is it be in Kokoda. It talks about men getting injured, sick, hungry and dying, but it uses this to tell the audience how heroic the ANZAC’s are for sacrificing they’re comfort and safety for Australia • The movie uses this idea of sacrifice as a way to convince or even guilt the audience to put a more conscience effort into the war because the ANZAC’s making a sacrifice is something that they relate to as important or inspiring
Speech continued • The movie also mentions how the ANZAC’s are woefully undersupplied. But it says how intelligent and resourceful they are and how they manage to get by with determination, courage and spirit, all important Australian ideals. • It also mentions how little of them there are against all the Japanese, trying to show how even against impossible odds the ANZAC’s will not back down (Showing they are underdogs, another important Australian ideal) and are and will make sacrifice and if necessary, the ultimate sacrifice for Australia
Conclusion • The movie uses the Australian ANZAC ideal of sacrifice as a powerful tool to convince the audience of not only the greatness of the ANZAC’s but also to help with the war effort. • It does this with the idea of sacrifice as well as other Australian ideal such as never giving up
