2. What Is CIGRÉ ? CIGRÉ is the Conseil International des Grands Reseaux Electriques— The International Council On Large Electric Systems • Founded in Paris in 1921 as a worldwide non-profit association. Concept of J. Tribot Laspiere (France) and Frederic Attwood (USA). (Attwood-- first president of the USNC in 1921.) • Mission: Develop and distribute technical knowledge and information internationally regarding large electric systems.

3. What Is the U.S. National Committee of CIGRÉ? • National Committees (NCs) are the heart of CIGRÉ’s organization • 80 countries – three largest are: • France • Brazil • United States • NCs manage their country’s participation in CIGRÉ’s activities – particularly inStudy Committees
