What is Nanotechnology? • Nano is a Greek word meaning Dwarf or Small. • Nanotechnology is manipulating matter Atom by Atom, where measurements must be made in nanometers.
What is a Nanometer? • A nanometer is one billionth of a meter, only three to five atoms wide. (0.000000001) • Nanometers are so small that 150 of them could fit across the width of a human hair.
Why do we need Nanotechnology? • The goal of nanotechnology is to build tiny machines with extraordinary properties in all kinds of useful textiles, medical devices, and everyday tools.
