  6. Module 1: Communicating Faith in Action The mission-centric model of Faith in Action is designed to offer men and their families the opportunity to:

The purpose for which said corporation is formed, always consistent with Catholic values and doctrine, are the following: through a system of subordinate councils, along with regional, national, and international convocations, to raise up, support and encourage a fraternity whose members are practical Catholics united by their faith and by the principles of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism; through common worship, charitable works, meetings, and rites of initiation, to form its members in Catholic faith and virtue; to render pecuniary aid to its members, their families, and beneficiaries of members and their families; to render mutual aid and assistance to its sick, disabled, and needy members and their families; to promote social and intellectual interaction among its members and their families; to promote and conduct educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, war relief, public relief, and other activities; and to unite members in their Catholic identity and the practice of their Catholic faith.

  10. Module 2.1: The power of story Learning Objective: Connect and deliver FIA talking points with personal story.

  11. Module 2.1: The power of story • What makes a personal story powerful? • It is real • It makes a connection • It can improve moral authority • It can inspire action

  12. Module 2.1: The power of story Activity: Reflection • Who in your life has modeled faith in action? • What did their example inspire? • Share a time you put your faith into action. How did it impact or change your life? 5 minutes to share at your table.

  13. Module 2.1: The power of story Activity: Make Faith in Action come alive Whois your audience? Which story will you tell? Which FIA talking point will you connect it to? 5 minutes to script and 5 minutes to practice at your table.

  14. WORKING WITH YOUR PASTOR or BISHOP Most important thing to remember: The council is in service to the Pastor/Bishop This must be believed and emulated by the council.

  15. Steps to Success #1: Know that every time a Pastor/Bishop meets with someone who has a “new” idea or project, he is thinking 2 things: How much is this going to cost me? How much work is this going to create for me? It is imperative that these 2 issues are answered through your conversation or he will often lose interest quickly. #2 Request to meet with your Pastor/Bishop for one purpose…to ask how our council may better serve the parish/diocese.

  16. Steps to Success #3 Prior to creating the calendar for you council or jurisdiction, ask the Pastor/Bishop if you may see the parish/diocese’s calendar for the Fraternal year. Stress that you want to make sure your council is aware and ready to assist with important events for the Pastor/Bishop throughout the year. #4 Understand the Faith in Action Programs very well. Prior to meeting with the Pastor/Bishop, do your homework and learn what programs and initiatives are important to him. Begin by promoting Faith in Action programs that directly contribute to the initiatives/programs important to him.

Steps to Success #5 Ask the Pastor/Bishop if you may be part of his “leadership team.” Be clear that your intention is to be better engaged with the priorities of the parish/diocese so that your council may serve him better. #6 At all costs, be the group in the parish/diocese that he can depend on the most.

  18. Module 2.2: The power of story Learning Objective: Identify, connect and communicate the points of FIA to the initiatives and needs of a bishop/diocese.

  26. Module 2.2: The power of story Working session: Research the diocese - connect FIA to the story of the diocese and needs/goals of the Bishop

Module 2.2: The power of story ACTIVITY: Share with your table, as you would to the Bishop, the purpose of Faith in Action, by connecting a diocesan initiative to one of the talking points of Faith in Action and how a specific program offered by councils (as referenced in the FIA Guidebook) can support that diocesan initiative.

  28. Module 3: Organizational Meeting Prep Learning objective: Define success through required programs and the road map of Columbian Award.

  29. Module 3: Organizational Meeting Prep Columbian Award: Conduct at least four major programs in each of the FIA categories Complete the Columbian Award Application (SP-7) – Due by June 30 Submit the Service Program Personnel Report (#365) – Due by Aug. 1

  31. Module 3: Organizational Meeting Prep Columbian award as roadmap WHY GIVE AN AWARD? To honor our brother Knights as they put their faith into action, not simply achieve goals.

  32. Module 3: Organizational Meeting Prep Choose the right programs • Programing should meet the needs of: • Our Knights • Our Parish Communities Fruit: Engaged members and families, happy pastor, purpose to join  GROWTH OF THE ORDER

  33. Module 3: Organizational Meeting Prep Supreme Chaplain Monthly Challenge Archbishop Lori choses a line or two from scripture (in the upcoming month) from one of the readings at Sunday Mass. There is a brief reflection on the reading from the Archbishop The Archbishop gives them a challenge or 2 to live for the upcoming month The next month, the council reconvenes and shares what it was like living the challenge

  34. Module 3: Organizational Meeting Prep Roles of DDs, PDs and GKs: Enable Knights to fulfill the mission of the order by providing opportunities to put their faith into action through the program model we provide.

Module 3: Organizational Meeting Prep Specifically we need you, Worthy State Deputy, to… • Clearly and consistently communicate the purpose of Faith in Action • Make Faith in Action come alive through your own story • Encourage Supreme Chaplains Monthly Challenge • Coach your staff to effectively connect Faith in Action to the needs and goals of bishops and pastors • Hold the PDs, DDs and GKs accountable – Roadmap of Columbian (SP-7 and #365) • Clearly cast the vision for the connection between programs and growth • Model and coach this for DDs and PD so they can do the same.

Module 3: Organizational Meeting Prep Specifically we need DDs and PD to… • Clearly and consistently communicate the purpose of Faith in Action • Make Faith in Action come alive through their own story • Encourage Supreme Chaplains Monthly Challenge • Coach GKs to effectively connect Faith in Action to the needs and goals of their pastors and parishes • Hold the GKs accountable – Roadmap of Columbian (SP-7 and #365) • Clearly cast the vision for the connection between programs and growth • Model and coach this for every GK so they can do the same.

  37. Module 3: Organizational Meeting Prep Specifically we need Grand Knights to… • Do the exact same thing as the DDs but for their pastor, council leadership and every Knight in their council. • Live their faith and put it into action with their brother Knights
