  3. Education • Up-dating knowledge and continuing education is vital to improving what you do and how you do it. • Consumers and the public have an expectation that animal welfare standards are high and are acted on. • Need the help of expert service providers

  4. Take Home Message You have an obligation to your cows, your staff, the dairy industry, consumers and yourself to UP-DATE and EDUCATE.

  5. Lameness Education • Smithton Vet Service workshop program • 5 workshops so far (70-80 participants) • Some other Australian vets doing similar programs • NZ – Healthy Hooves • No standard industry programs

  7. Take Home Message Lameness is common & costly BUT simple and inexpensive things WILL make a big difference.

  8. Dairy Australia • Lameness is a key AW issue • National Lameness Workshop (May 2008) • Co-ordinate the development of a kit of resources for service providers – ID, treatment & prevention of lameness.

  9. DA Draft Resource Kit • Resources for presenters • Information package for farmers – will be provided by presenters and paid for by participants.

  10. Take Home Message Watch for the release of the DA resource kit and ask your vets to organise workshops in your area.
