Joint Action Group for Operational Community Modeling (JAG/OCM) Update November 20-21, 2013 Dr. Mark Swenson JAG/OCM Chair
Overview • JAG/OCM membership • Status of Initiatives • Operational Processing Center (OPC) Modeling Plans • Data Quality Control Techniques • Atmospheric Motion Vectors
JAG/OCM Membership • FNMOC - Mark Swenson (Chair) • AFWA - Evan Kuchera • FNMOC - Chuck Skupniewicz • NAVO - Frank Bub • NOAA/NCEP – Glenn White • NRL/MRY– Pat Phoebus • NRL/SSC – Gregg Jacobs • CNMOC - Kevin LaCroix • OFCM - Ken Barnett *New to the group
OPC Modeling Plans • COPC Action Item 2013-1.7: Identify areas of overlap for possible collaboration, from each Centers’ modeling plans for 2013-2018. • OCM Executive Secretary (Ken Barnett) will schedule 3 meetings to review the plans. • NCEP – Bill Lapenta / Glenn White (or John Derber ) • AFWA - Evan Kuchera • Navy - Kevin LaCroix / Dave McCarren
Data Quality Techniques • COPC Action Item 2012-1.4: Develop an approach to address the OPCs’ data quality control techniques for assimilation into the models. Possibly developing an ad hoc meeting/s to share data quality control techniques and to determine how the OPCs can share information to help advance the science. • Evaluate effort regarding Atmospheric Motion Vectors (see next action item) as possible pathfinder for other high-interest data types. • Recommendation: Keep open.
Satellite Winds • COPC Action Item 2013-1.8: Coordinate an update to be briefed to the next COPC by the JCSDA describing collaborative efforts to improve the exploitation of Atmospheric Motion Vectors. • Pat Phoebus brief to follow.
