  2. Isothermal Community College Founded in 1964, Isothermal Community College serves Rutherford and Polk counties in the beautiful foothills of western North Carolina. Isothermal, so-named because of the region's steady climate, is a comprehensive, two-year public institution and is a part of the North Carolina Community College System. Isothermal's mission is to "improve life through learning." The college offers 87 programs of study, including college transfer, vocational, and technical programs leading to a two-year associate degree, or one-year or less certificate or diploma.  Isothermal also provides training for area business and industry, personal enrichment courses, adult basic education, adult high school programs and developmental courses. The main campus is on 142 acres in Spindale. The Polk campus is in Columbus. The Spindale campus, perched on the shore of an 11-acre lake, is home to The Foundation Center for the Performing Arts, the area's premier venue for the arts and other special events. Our Innovators • Isothermal Community College facilitators include four full-time faculty members. • Tim Greene is an instructor of Networking and Information Systems Security and holds an MS, Information Security from East Carolina University. • Steve Hollifield in an instructor of Computer Engineering Technology and holds an MS, Technology Systems Digital Communications from East Carolina University. • Jo James is an instructor of Web Technology and Computer programming and holds an MBA, Gardner Webb University and an Ed.S, from Appalachian State University. • Chester Peeler is an instructor of Computer Engineering Technology and holds a BS, Engineering Technology from Western Carolina University. • Facebook facilitators include two full-time employees. • George Henry is the Data Center Operation Manager and holds a BA. • Duane Gowan is a Data Center Technician and hold an MS in Technology from Western • Carolina University.   4. Isothermal Data Center Institute The institute offers students the opportunity to participate in a workshop that focuses on the technical components of an entry level employee in a data center. It is delivered in a hands-on environment that uses active-learning techniques to cover the material that will apply the theory of data center management. Students must complete the Career Readiness Certification achieving a Gold Level in order to enroll. Hardware and electrical content addresses the foundations of electricity, vital to success and safety in a data center. Topics include DC/AC fundamentals, basic computing and networking, and data center specific hardware. Operating system content addresses the foundations of Linux. Topics include an introduction to the command line interface, file management, single user and administrator skills, and data center specific Linux operations. Content is delivered in modules that focus on specific technical concepts. Following the institute, an Isothermal Community College Certification Exam will be conducted.
