4 Men Kidnapped and Murdered in Juarez, Mexico By. Soomin Shim
What? In the middle of a normal wedding ceremony, suddenly gunmen showed up and stormed into the church. These gunmen shot a guestin the building and kidnapped four men. After three days, the police in this city found the dead bodies in the bed of a pickup truck in the city. The bodies had signs of torture.
Who? • People who were kidnapped: The groom, Rafael Morales Valencia (29); his brother, Jamie Morales Valencia(25); and their uncle, Guadalupe Morales Valencia, and the police have not released the fourth person’s name • They are all U.S. citizens from La Mesa, New Mexico, who immigrated earlier from the city they were killed in. • The man shot at the church for trying to stop the kidnapping or escape was Alonso Sotelo Corral. • The police couldn’t find out about who actually kidnapped these four men. They just predict that this incident was caused by gang or drug-related issues due to the style of killing.
When? • The men were kidnapped on Friday May 7th and they were found in east Juarezon May 10th, Monday afternoon. • Municipal police started to identify the dead bodies the next day after they discovered the bodies, which was on May 11th on Tuesday.
Where? • This incident happened in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Northern Mexico • Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua: very violent and dangerous due to drug and gang related murder that are caused by cocaine smuggling into the U.S. • Already in 2010, there have been 870 deaths; 2,600 in 2009; 6,757 since 2006

Why I chose this article • I chose this article because it reminded me of the other terrible incidents that have happened in Mexico, which also happened to be abductions and killings. • I wanted to know the truth about what actually happen. • Additionally, I chose this article because I realized that people need to be careful about certain parts of Mexico where the drug trade is common. • Finally, this is the last thing that I would expect to happen at a wedding.
