KOM 5989: Project Paper (6 cr) REQUIREMENTS • To be eligible for Project Paper, students must obtain a grade of B+ for: KOM 5113: Communication Research Methods AND KOM 5115: Statistics for Communication Research • Key-in/registered on-line • (To drop Project Paper: please check with PPL regarding date to drop courses)
KOM 5989: Project Paper (6 cr) REQUIREMENTS • Students are required to submit a written proposal (during 2nd semester of study (1 month before the third F2F meeting) to the coordinator of Master of Corporate Communication (PJJ) • Department of Communication will form a selection panel to review the proposals received
KOM 5989: Project Paper (6 cr) REQUIREMENTS • Students whose proposals have been shortlisted are required to present (orally) their proposals during the student’s 2nd semester of study (3rd F2F meeting) • Final decisions of whether to allow students to present Project Paper will be made based on the oral presentation
KOM 5989: Project Paper (6 cr) REQUIREMENTS • Once students’ proposal has been approved, students are not allowed to change the title of their Project Paper. • Students are then assigned with a supervisor to guide them in their Project Paper (note: supervisors are assigned to students; students are not allowed to choose their supervisors)
KOM 5989: Project Paper (6 cr) REQUIREMENTS • Students are then required to present their proposals (15%) in Week 17 of their 3rd Semester of study • Students are also required to present their findings of study (15%) in Week 17 of their 4th semester of study
KOM 5989: Project Paper (6 cr) REQUIREMENTS • After the presentation of the findings (in the 4th semester of study), students are required to consult their supervisor to do the final amendment on their Project Paper. • Students are required to bind their Project Paper once all corrections have been made • One copy of students’ Project Paper will be sent to a second reader for allocation of marks
KOM 5989: Project Paper (6 cr) BREAK DOWN OF MARKS • Proposal Presentation 15% • Findings Presentation 15% • Marks from Supervisor 40% • Project Paper Progress 10% • Marks from Second Reader 20% Total Marks 100%
KOM 5989 (cont…) • fill up the application form to do Project Paper • State your propose topic of project • Project Paper should be undertaken in 2 semesters of study (3rd and 4th semester). Students should key in 3 credits of Project Paper per semester • Project paper are graded by assigning a letter grade (not just pass or fail)
KOM 5989 (cont…) • Required to present the research proposal during the 17th week of the semester. • Improve proposal based on feedback during presentation, collect data, analysis, writing etc.
KOM 5989 (cont…) • Final report presentation during week 17th week of the 4th semester. • Revise Project Paper and submit for grading • Submission of hardbound copies (3 copies) before grade submitted.
KOM 5989 (cont…) • The Title/Topic/Focus of Project Paper: - Corporate Communication or - Crisis Communication or - International Communication (how does a particular organization communicate its corporate policies to other organizations in other parts of the world?) - Some aspects of Public Relations (i.e., how a particular organization interacts with the general public about related issues)
KOM 5989 (cont…) • Information about Project Paper: - Project Paper can be written in English or Bahasa Malaysia (Bahasa Melayu) - comprising of 4 sections (not chapters) - need to incorporate a relevant theoretical concept (theory) - reference should be based on the APA referencing system - findings should be presented in tables (not in terms of bar graph, pie chart etc)
KOM 5989 (cont…) • Information about Project Paper: - Methodology can be based on qualitative or quantitative approach or both (depending on the advise of your supervisor) - if using questionnaire surveys (quantitative), respondents should be selected based on the population and sample size and research instrument should be pre-tested - if using qualitative approach (in-depth interviews or content analysis or focus group), respondents can be lesser in number
KOM 5989 (cont…) • Information about Project Paper: - Two presentations required: 1. Project Paper proposal presentation (beginning stage) – 15% 2. Findings presentation (end stage) – 15% - Do appropriate corrections/changes based on feedback given during proposal and findings presentations - Bind Final Project Paper and submit to supervisor for evaluation (grading)
