Sources of Infection in Seeds Disease and pest infected seed/crop , Improper Post harvest handling, Faulty seed extraction methods, Soil born pests / diseases Infected seeds Infected seedlings Soybean (Purple Seed Stain Cercospora sp.) Groundnut (Sclerotium spp)
Treated Untreated Benefits of Seed Treatment • Protects germinating seeds and seedlings from soil and seed borne pathogens / insects • Seed germination enhancement. Seed treated soybean crop
Benefits of Seed Treatment • Uniform crop stand, even in adverse conditions • (less/high moisture) Seed treated Groundnut crop Untreated Treated

INDUSTRY - PROMOTION OF SEED TREATMENT SEED TREATING MACHINES FOR GROUNDNUT & SOYBEAN
Quality Control of Pesticides • Manufacturing licenses only with minimum infrastructure • Planned sampling of pesticides • Quality analysis • Effective prosecution proceedings • Effective monitoring- use of ICT
Quality control of Pesticides • Improved output of SPTLs • Add more SPTLs and NABL accreditation • Training of analysts at NPPTI, Hyderabad • Sophisticated analytical equipments • Educate farmers on judicious and safe use of pesticides • Delete label claims as per GOI Notifications, conditions of RC
Locust Control • Target states advised to review preparedness and availability of control measures • Locust surveys by J&K in Kargil and Leh after April, 2007 • Public education and awareness • States should liaise closely with Locust Warning Organisation
Training in Plant Protection • Nominate more officers for training programmes • Suggest need based training programmes • Utilize the training facilities at NPPTI Hyderabad • Organise training by NPPTI in the states, in collaboration with Industry
