Casting… • Is the replacement of one material with another • Is used to create sculptures in bronze, cement, glass, plaster, resins and any other material that sets in hard state
History… • It is believed that 2000 BC, cultures in the Near East were using earthenware to cast bronze. Many of these were figures of Gods and Goddesses.
Cultures throughout the Ancient world…From Greece to China and India to Africa… • Refined the technique of casting in bronze.
During the Renaissance… • Bronze sculpting reached a new height and in addition, sculptors began working with other metals.
Today… • A wide variety of synthetic materials, such as resins and plastics are used
Create a box with sides around the clay…including at least 1” of flat surface around the edges
Pour plaster (into box) to create mold- make sure there is flat surface area around clay
Place plaster mold with glass billets pieces in and fire to cone 014 and hold to melt pieces together
Finished piece after breaking plaster away and cleaning all areas…
