Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John- a table to compare the gospels By: Maddy Lukas, Laura Ruperez, and Caroline Ahearne
About the Gospel Writers WHEN WERE THE GOSPELS WRITTEN? The gospels were not written at the same time. Also, the gospels were written after Jesus was already born, died and risen into heaven! In fact, the first gospel writer, Mark, wrote his gospel 60 years after Jesus was born. Jesus was born- around O A.D Mark- around 60 A.D Matthew & Luke- around 70-90 A.D John- around 100 A.D Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John’s gospels are all about the same topics, but each gospel is unique in its own way. Also, by skimming through each gospel, you can see what each man’s opinion about the events in Jesus’ life were. Matthew’s gospel is the longest because each chapter is really short. Luke and John’s gospels are very long and detailed. Mark’s gospel is short, but it covers all the same topics; only in longer chapters.
