  2. The World is Getting Riskier Traditional corporate strategies are no longer protecting us from unexpected events. The imperative to be resilient is high with the need to ensure the continuity of essential services in the face of all hazards. Attributes of organizational resilience need to be better understood and integrated into an organization’s everyday life, philosophy and culture.

  3. ICOR’s Mission: Build Resilient Communities All organizations in a community need to provide their goods and services under all conditions in order for a community to be resilient. 3

  5. What is Organizational Resilience? Resilience is focused on an organization’s ability to achieve its immediate objectives in uncertain and non-routine times.

  6. What is Organizational Resilience? Organizational resilience is the adaptive capacity of an organization in a complex and changing environment. ISO 22300

  7. What is Adaptive Capacity? (and why do we care?) Scheffer et al. 2000, Berkes et al. 2002 • Adaptive capacity is determined by: • The ability of organizations to learn and store knowledge and experience • Creative flexibility in decision making and problem solving • The existence of power structures that are responsive and consider the needs of all stakeholders.
