  2. Mission 21 adds a technological context to enhance existing elementary curriculum and support interdisciplinary learning. • Science • Mathematics • Social Studies • Language Arts • Art • Health and Physical Education Interdisciplinary problem-solving

  4. Mission 21 emphasizes creativity, problem solving, and critical thinking skills. • The key components of the program: • Problem-solving strategies • Design briefs – define the activity • Folios – documents a students work • Student Presentations – group interaction and peer review

  6. Design Briefs describe the activity or problem • Describes a usually hypothetical situation • Asks the student to do something in response, i.e. solve or address a problem Each Level has a distinctive border

  7. The Folio documents the solution to a problem posed in a Design Brief • Documents and organizes a students work • Recommended as the primary metric • Teaches organization and planning

Student Presentations are an important component of learning • Share design brief solutions with others • Presenters must respond to impromptu questions • Opportunity to reflect and re-evaluate solutions • Presentations to peers and special events, such as science fairs, PTA, and community events

Mission 21 Curriculum Articulation • Articulation refers to ways that subjects or topics fit together, or interrelate • Elementary Grades: Mission 21 articulates well with commonly taught subjects • Post Elementary: articulates with middle school thru college, especially Technology Education • Interdisciplinary Concepts and Skills Chart • Provides interdisciplinary mapping and articulation
