5. Simulation • Focus – Patient Safety • Goal – To provide a simulated FAHC patient admission that will allow new hires to practice patient safety and communication skills in a controlled setting

6. Simulation Objectives • Demonstrate basic patient safety • Document fall risk assessment • Implement safety measures • Seek additional resources as needed

7. Simulation Roles • Primary nurse – New hire • Charge nurse – Unit educator • Checklist/Debriefing – Bev • Patient – Shelly

9. Findings • Learner satisfaction ratings have increased consistently from “3” to “4-5” on Likert scale of 1-5 with 5 being the best • Comments include “memorable”, “interactive”, and “outstanding” • Example of an unintended finding

10. Clinical Relevance • Patient Safety is the focus of our many accrediting agencies • Research shows that simulation provides a safe setting for novice nurses to practice the application of nursing skills

11. Conclusions • Data needs to be collected for a longer period of time to determine the impact of simulation on patient safety at FAHC
