Pointillism “Ism” signifies a belief, practice, idea, or movement. In art, there are many movements that end in ism. One of the most popular ISMs is Pointillism.
Pointillism Pointillism, just as it sounds, is a style of art using only dots. French Artist Georges Seurat, the founder of this movement in the 1880s, preferred the name Divisionism. It was the critics of this movement that gave it the name Pointillism. Georges Seurat

Stippling Assignment • 1. Choose photograph from magazine (cut it out and do not lose it) • 2. Make a light contour drawing of your photograph • Using a pen, start with darkest values first (stippling should reflect 3 dimensional quality) • 3. Dots are DOTS (not dots with tails) • 4.Avoid outlines (shifts in value instead of outlines) • 5. Turning work in (always attach your magazine photo with your name/class period to your drawing) • .
You will be graded on the following: • No tadpoles • No outlines • Values match original picture • Used at least 6 ranges of value • Craftsmanship (no pencil lines) • Shows contour of object
