Whatisit? • The Spire of Dublin, officially titled the Monument of Light (Irish: An Túr Solais) is a large, stainless steel, pin-like monument 121.2 metres (398 ft) in height. • The spire is an elongated cone of diameter 3 m (9.8 ft) at the base, narrowing to 15 cm (5.9 in) at the top. Construction of the world's tallest sculpture.

  4. Whobuiltit? • The spire was designed by Ian Ritchie Architects who sought an "Elegant and dynamic simplicity bridging art and technology". • It was manufactured by Radley Engineering of Dungarvan, Co. Waterford, and erected by SIAC Construction Ltd.

  5. Whatisthemeaning of TheSpire? In 1966 Nelson’s Pillar was destroyed by a bomb by former IRA members. The Spire was built to regenerate O’Connell Street and to replace Nelson’s Pillar.

  6. Whatisthemeaning of TheSpire? • From there the distances of a point are calculated up to Dublin. It represents supposedly the heart of the city going out of the Earth.

  7. More information • The monument has been nominated for the following: ~2004 RIBA National Award & Stirling Prize shortlist. ~2003 British Construction Industry International Award finalist. ~2005 Mies Van der Rohe Prize list. • To build The Spire of Dublin has cost €4,000,000.
