  1. 849 Твердыня наша — вечный Бог 1. A mighty fortress is our God. A bulwark never failing; Our helper He amid the flood Of mortal ills prevailing. 1. Твердыня наша — вечный Бог, Он — сила и защита. Из бед Он выйти нам помог, В Нём наша жизнь сокрыта!

  2. For still our ancient foe Doth seek to work us woe— His craft and power are great, And, armed with cruel hate, On earth is not His equal. Наш древний враг не спит, Нам гибелью грозит; Он на земле всегда Живёт лишь для вреда, Он в мире всех страшнее.

  3. 2. Did we in our own strength confide, Our striving would be losing, Were not the right man on our side, The man of God’s own choosing. 2. От века грозного врага Не одолеем сами. Один лишь может, без труда, Сковать его цепями.

  4. Dost ask who that may be? Christ Jesus, it is He— Lord Sabaoth His name, From age to age the same, And He must win the battle. Кто Он? звучит вопрос. Господь Иисус Христос, Он был, есть и грядёт, Он тот же в род и род — Всесильный победитель.

  5. 3. And though this world with devils filled, Should threaten to undo us, We will not fear, for God hath willed, His truth to triumph through us. 3. Когда враги голодным львам Нас кинут на съеденье, Господень ангел будет там, Подаст нам избавленье.

  6. The prince of darkness grim, We tremble not for him— His rage we can endure, For lo, his doom is sure: One little word shall fell him. Князь тьмы рычит, как лев, И страшен его гнев, Пожрать нас хочет он, Но сам он обречён На вечную погибель.

  7. 4. That word above all earthly powers, No thanks to them, abideth; The Spirit and the gifts are ours Through Him who with us sideth. 4. Господне слово устоит, Господь пребудет с нами. Он нас поддержит, укрепит Духовными дарами.

  8. Let goods and kindred go, This mortal life also— The body they may kill; God’s truth abideth still: His kingdom is forever. Пусть нас лишат враги Свободы и семьи. Их на кривых путях Ждут беды, смерть и мрак, А нам Господь даст царство.
