What is Geothermal energy • Geothermal energy is a form of energy that comes from the earths natural heat • It comes from radioactive decay and sunlight • It is efficient and inexpensive • However it is limited to the edges of the tectonic plates
advantages • The power is constant • It is very clean energy • The power is renewable • New technologies have made it more accessible to other areas of the world
Disadvantages • Geothermal energy has low heat so unless the exhaust can be directly used the heat left over is wasted • It is limited to areas around the tectonic plate and other geothermal hot spots • Wells drilled release co2 and other pollutants.
How do the plants work • Dry Steam Plants- these plants use geothermal steam to power turbines. • Flash Steam Plants- use pressurized water to flash into steam and turn turbines • Binary Cycle Plants- these are the newest plants that use a liquid with a boiling point lower than water and different pressures to flash steam and turn turbines
Heat uses • Most of geothermal heat is used in space heating. • A third of the energy is used for heating pools • The leftovers are used for agricultural uses
What are the top three countries using this energy • 1-usa • 2-Phillipines • 3-indonesia
