Maintaining a Positive Self-Image • Self-Talk • The silent conversation that you have with yourself to explain everyday experiences. • “She didn’t mean what she said. She’s just trying to impress the other students.”
Maintaining a positive self-image cont… • Affirmation • The use of personal statements that highlight our strengths and abilities. • “I know I’m good in math. I’ll be sure to get the answer correct next time.” • “I know I’m a nice person. I’ll make lots of friends in this new school.”
Maintaining a positive self-image cont… • Visualization • Picturing yourself succeeding or comfortable in a new challenging situation that would typically cause you to feel uncomfortable. • Situations include participating in class, giving a speech or making new friends.
