Improved Student Projection Report Addition of Interpretation Legend
Would your district like to access PVAAS Student Projection data on YOUR currently enrolledstudents in fall 2010?
When PVAAS is released on Oct 1st • PVAAS Student Projection Reports are linked to the district/school where the student was attributed for the most recent Spring PSSA testing
Issues in Accessing PVAAS on Current Students in Fall 2010 • Students change grade levels. • Students change schools – elementary to middle school and middle to high school. • Students move to a new district in PA. Meaning, the new school cannot easily see the PVAAS Projections and in some cases cannot see them at all.
Optional Service with PVAAS Data • Districts have the OPTION of submitting an updated currently enrolled student data file to SAS, Inc. • A file containing students who are currently enrolled in their district and schools in fall 2010.
How will this work? • There is no cost to Pennsylvania or school districts for this service from SAS, Inc.! • 3 different submission windows throughout the fall months. • Oct 22 • Nov 22 • Jan 7 • Districts can choose to submit ONE file during each of these submissions if their student enrollment changes frequently throughout the fall. • 10 Data Fields • Data will be accepted from districts on a secure FTP site with each district having a unique password-protected account. • (Districts receiving EAP/Educational Assistance Program funds already use this FTP site and are VERY familiar with submitting files in this way.)
Successful Pilot in 6 PA Districts • Clairton City SD, Conestoga Valley SD, Elizabeth Forward SD, Pittsburgh Public Schools, SD of Philadelphia, and Southern Lehigh SD. • THANK YOU to these districts for paving the way! • Starting this process with DISTRICTS only • Working on a plan for CTCs, Charters, etc.
PIMS? We are continuing to work with the PDE PIMS team to develop a statewide approach to create these re-enrollments in PVAAS.
Next Steps • IMPORTANT: Further instructions, along with submission windows, will be distributed to districts no later than the end of next week. • DO NOT prepare any data files for submission until you have received the final instructions. • Instructions will be sent to PVAAS District and Building Account holders, IU PVAAS and PATTAN PVAAS. • Please share with others in your districts as appropriate
Advanced Placement (AP) statement on PSSA Individual Student Reports (ISRs) One important change to be noted on the 8th grade ISRs.
History and Context • Districts have been inquiring about other HS indicators • PA’s Race to the Top Proposals • AP, IB, dual enrollment, rigorous studies • College and Career Ready • Common Core • Keystones

#7 & #8. Typically we have many MORE/LESS students taking advanced level coursework each year than the number of students who received the AP statement on their ISRs. Why is there a discrepancy in the number of ISR AP notes and the actual number of students from our freshman class who take advanced coursework during their high school career?
