April Acrostic Theme: Using an acrostic word format to locate news stories of specific themes listed to the side of each letter category
Objective: • To learn the definition of acrostic and become familiar with various sections of the newspaper…as well as the most up-to-date current events!
April Acrostic • An acrostic is a composition, usually in verse, in which the initial or final letters of the lines taken in order form a word or phrase. An example might be the following: • O utdoors • R ecreation • E vergreen • G rapes • O cean • N uts!
Acrostic Activity • A – art, arbitration, authority, antique, aviation • P – peace, piercings, pride, Portland • R – reduction, racism, railroad, refinery, rural, radical, risk • I – income tax, interest, independent, inquiry, infrastructure • L – liquid, loss, labor, left-wing, local, laboratory • Pick just ONE subject or topic from the side of each letter of the acrostic and find one story that relates (in any way!) to the selected category under or belonging to each of the five letters. Locate a story and document the name of the newspaper, date and page number upon which it was found and give a brief summary of the story.
