Standard Based Goals • Student master standards and grade level expectations so they are equipped with the knowledge and skills to be successful in the future. • Instruction Focused on Standards • Assessments match individual standards and multiple standards • Reteach/ Reassess needed standards • Give feedback on the level of mastery

Why Standard Based Grading? • To communicate the level of achievement and progress based on academic standards as well as conduct (separately) • SBG is all about ability-it gives a true picture of student’s ability (not behavior) • Ensures student mastery of standards • Standards drive instruction • “Grades” serve a purpose – each test, lesson, activity serves a purpose • Makes teaching more intentional • Fosters rigor • A way to work “smarter” not harder
