Terms • In point – where you want the clip to begin • Out Point – where you want the clip to end • Transitions – Place in between clips – looks nice going from clip to clip
Windows in fcp • Browser- List of clips, audio files • and graphics • Viewer- Can preview your clipand adjust special effects • Canvas- View finished project here – when played in timeline • Timeline- Build your project here, clip by clip
Windows in fcp • Video Track - Video is placed here. Can layer several video tracks • Audio Track - Audio is placed here. Can layer several audio tracks • Playhead- Shows exact frame of video that is playing. Line with yellow triangle.
Windows in fcp • Audio Meter – Measures relative loudness of sound. Don’t let sound get into the red – will be distorted • Tool Palette - Contains editing tools – including pen tool, blade tool
How To: • See a clip in the viewer - Double click clip • Undo - Command, Z • Rewind clip – J • Fast Rewind clip – JJ • Pause clip – K • Play clip forward – L • Fast Forward - LL
How To: • Set an In Point – I • Set an Out Point – O • Pen Tool – P • Razor Blade Tool - B
How To: • Insert Edit - place playhead where you want your footage to start. Either drag to insert edit overlay OR click on insert edit button, (yellow) All other footage will be moved to the right.
How To: • Overwrite Edit -place playhead where you want your footage to start. Either drag to overwrite edit overlay OR click on overwrite edit button. (red) This will place the clip over anything else on the timeline at that point.
How To: • Import your clips: • Insert SD card into card reader • Insert Card reader into USB port in computer • Open FCP • Make sure scratch disks are set to your Documents folder • (Final Cut Pro>system settings)
How To Import: • Click: File>Log and Transfer • Thumbnails of the clips will open in a new window. • Choose the clips you want and drag to lower portion of window. • Eject card before removing from computer
