2. Welcome to the TechLab The staff at Beardsley Junior High School is proud to offer students access to a modern technology lab.  The facility offers students opportunities to work in modular educational settings in which they can apply the principles of science and technology to gain a better understanding of today's highly technical world.

3. A Typical Day A typical day in the lab consists of 20 minutes of reading, answering questions, and note taking of modular content. After the students are finished taking notes, they complete the period by performing activities, such as rocket building, small engine studies, audio/visual exercises, bridge building, and more.

4. Study Hints To help your child prepare for testing that occurs every 5thday, you must make certain that he or she is taking his or her notes and study guide questions home for review. You should also quiz your child to check for understanding. I allow all students to use notes during tests, so having good notes and understanding them helps ensure good test scores.

5. Web Resources/Standards Correlations I have prepared a Web resource for the lab that provides information about each module and the California State Standards (English and Math) that the modules support (see http://www.beardsley.k12.ca.us/bjhs/industrialtech.htm).In addition, student exercises can be correlated to National Technology Standards (see http://cnets.iste.org/students/s_stands.html).

6. Homework: Current Event A current event will be due each Friday beginning on October 7, 2005. The assignment includes reading an article that deals with science and/or technology, writing a two-paragraph summary, and indicating the title of the article as well as its source. Each paragraph must have at least 5 - 7 sentences in order to receive full credit. The assignment is given as homework.

7. Behavior Guidelines • All students are expected to come in the lab prepared to contribute to a rich learning environment. That requires students to do the following: • Listen to and follow teacher guided directions. • Read all information and complete workstation assignments. • Respect themselves and each other. • Come prepared with pencil(s) and paper(s). • Turn in work on time. • Follow all school rules. • Work in a safe and orderly manner.

8. Consequences • For students who do not contribute to a rich learning environment, the following consequences will be administered: • First offense: Student will be given a warning and his or her name will be noted. • Second offense: Student will be asked to move from work station and be provided alternative work until he or she is ready to participate with the class again. • Third offense: Student will either be given an infraction or a referral and possibly sent to the vice-principal. That will warrant a phone call home. • Fourth offense: Student will be suspended from class or school.

9. Student Success Student success is a two-way street between home and school. Please help your child succeed by studying with him or her daily.
