Through a recent national poll, the following have been recognized as the Top Ten Places of Scenic Beauty and Historical Interest in China:
1. the Great Wall The Great Wall of China is one of the greatest sights in the world. It is an awe-inspiring feat(功绩) of ancient defensive architecture. Its winding path over rugged(崎岖的) country and steep mountains takes in some great scenery.
2. the Forbidden City
the Forbidden City, imperial palace is located in the center of Beijing. For five hundred years, emperors and their family members have lived in this palace. The Forbidden City is one of the most popular tourist spots to visit in Beijing next to the Great Wall.

Of all the notable mountains in China, Mount Huangshan, to be found in the south of Anhui province, is probably the most famous. Mt. Huangshan can boast not only of its magnificence but also its abundant resources and great variety of zoological species, for which it has been listed as a World Natural and Cultural Heritage Site.

2. Lantern Festival The 15th day of the new year is called the Lantern Festival(元宵节), which is celebrated at night with lantern displays and children carrying lanterns in a parade. And it is further enriched by the customary lantern riddle parties. The riddles are stuck on the surface of some of the lanterns for people to guess.

Besides entertainment and beautiful lanterns, another important part of the Lantern Festival is eating small dumpling balls made of rice flour with sweet fillings, which is called “Yuanxiao” in Chinese.
3. Tomb Sweeping Festival Qingming, literally clear and bright, is the most important springtime festival. It is also called the Tomb Sweeping Festival, as people visit the gravesites of their ancestors, pay respect to the dead at their tombs and hold memorial ceremonies in honor of their ancestors. people also spend some time cleaning the gravesite area.
But it is not just a day for mourning the dead. The festival is celebrated two weeks after the Equinox(昼夜平分时), and the dates usually turn out to be the 4th, 5th, or 6th of April. With the coming of spring, nature wakes up, dressing the world in green. Therefore, the day is also a happy occasion for outdoor activities, such as picnicking, kite flying and dancing. This might be an important reason why this festival has been very popular for thousands of years.
4. Mid-Autumn Festival Mid-Autumn Festival falls on the 15th day of the 8th month,it is the time when the moon is said to be at its brightest and fullest. In ancient China, emperors offered sacrifices to the sun in spring and to the moon in autumn.
People enjoy the full, bright moon and eat mooncakes on that day. Mooncakes are to Mid-Autumn Festival what mince pies are to Christmas. The round cakes traditionally have a sweet filling of lotus seed paste or red bean paste and often have one or more salted duck eggs in the center to represent the moon.
5. The Dragon Boat Festival The Dragon Boat Festival, also called the Duanwu Festival, is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month according to the Chinese calendar. For thousands of years, the festival has been marked by eating zong zi (glutinous rice(糯米)wrapped to form a pyramid using bamboo or reed leaves) and racing dragon boats.
The festival is best known for its dragon-boat races, especially in the southern provinces where there are many rivers and lakes, which commemorates the death of Qu Yuan , an honest minister who is said to have committed suicide by drowning himself in a river.
2. Traditional diet& Chinese food culture It is not easy to brief the civilization of Chinese Food in a short message, it is because, there are more than 56 folks inside the Mainland China, and the large area causes difference dining habits among the difference districts. But Chinese food is most well known for its various flavors(味道) and ingredients(配料).
Not same to the people living in western area, Chinese used to have their dinner together with all the family members, sitting around a table and each person will have one set of dining tool in front of them, including two bowls which one for rice and another for soup, one pairs of chopsticks. (Chinese always have soup during or after dining.) They will share the food dishes which were made and put into the central of table.
There are so many traditional and special Chinese foods, according to the folk culture, district, religion, and festival. For the famous classes divided by district, there are style of Guangdong, Beijing, Shanghai, Sichuan, North-West, and so on…or by folk, there are kejia, Yunan, Fujian, etc. These all above mentioned styles are well-known in the worldwide.
