Elements of Writing Vocab Words: List Six Name that video game!

Acquiescent • Adj. accepting passively; quickly and readily agreeable • The acquiescent parents agreed to buy the young boy a video game after he whined about it for two minutes. If they knew it was about gang battles with drive by shootings, car thefts, and prostitutes, they wouldn’t have agreed so readily.

Affluence • Noun. Wealth; abundance • In order to battle the affluence of the town’s misanthrope, the city folk started their own taxi service in an attempt to purchase the nuclear powered busses back. It was the only way to combat the wealth of C.M.B.

Cessation • Noun. A stopping; a ceasing of… • Mr. Jones, after realizing he spent 10,000 hours playing his video game, knew a cessation must occur because of school. It’s too bad he had to stop; he recently bought Desert of Flames and was hoping to spend quality time in Norrath.

Cynic • Noun. A person who is skeptical or distrustful of human motives • Carth Onasi, a cynical war veteran, doubted the intentions of his new member as they helped Bastila Shan try to defeat Darth Malak. Carth has been betrayed before, so I understand his cynicism.

Dank • Adj. Slimy; wet; clammy; moist • The space Marines traveled down dark and dank caverns blowing up evil Martians. These slimy, wet, and rancid locations were exactly what Hollywood was looking for in the next bad movie.

Emulate • Verb. To rival or to imitate • Alison Crestmere, aka Magma, tried to emulate the way her other, more famous vigilante heroes battled the Brotherhood. She tried to imitate the way they fought as she practiced in the Danger Room.

Fervor • Noun. Glowing ardor; a strong passion for… • The Covenant’s fervor for finding their sacred, ring-shaped relics in deep space was the only passion stronger than killing Spartan-117.

Humus • Noun. Substance formed by decaying vegetable matter. • The chicken-chaser destroyed the earth golem! It crumbled back to the ground; the dirt, rocks, soil and humus forming a nice place to plant a garden for the farmers at Orchard Farms, assuming the Hobbes don’t ruin them!

Jocular • Adj. Said or done in jest; jokingly • The protagonist’s buddy trotted about in a jocular manner, always making jokes as he helped his ogre friend aid Little Red Riding Hood, a strange goat, the king, all while battling the Fairy God Mother to save his friend’s marriage with a princess.

Languid • Adj. Weary; sluggish; listless • Gideon had no time to be languid after his brother was lost on the space station. He couldn’t relax or be lazy; he had to try to save the few remaining humans from the aliens that destroyed Earth. Besides, after the credits, Gideon would have to battle Ethan Wyeth in a bonus battle.

Mutable • Adj. Changing in form; prone to changing; capable of being changed • Munch and Abe, two quirky alien species, must remain mutable despite their restricted skills. By using their skills in different, changing ways, this odd duo can save Fuzzles, Mudokons, Gabbits while defeating the nefarious, industrialist Glukkons.

Omnipotent • Adj. All-powerful • While roaming the land of Vvardenfell looking to solve the ancient prophecy in this Elder Scrolls game, I found a great cheat code that gave my character omnipotence. Nothing could stop my character in god mode!

Ostensible • Adj. Apparent; professed; intended for display; open to view • Many critics believe that despite the NFL’s disassociation with this game, many say it is ostensible proof of corruption and vice in the league. Steroids, prostitutes, cheap shots– all are apparent examples of what occurs in the NFL.

Rancor • Noun. Hatred; bitterness • M-5 sacked this protagonist. His bitterness toward the British covert operations and his rancor towards M-5, allowed him to easily make the shift to working for Goldfinger.

Refulgence • Noun. Sparkles, shiny, reflecting • Bowser’s car sparkled with refulgence, until I smashed into him with Luigi’s car. Then it was dented, dirty, and sat duly on the track.

Tenacious • Adj. Holding fast; not easily pulled apart. • As Ghost battled the soldiers and police, he was able to pry their guns from their tenacious grasps. He could do this because he had a heightened strength while in the computer generated world.
