Schengen agreement - 1995 • Allowed people to travel without having their passports checked • Allowed people to study in other countries with EU support • Took effect in 7 countries (GER, FRA, SPA, POR, BEL, LUX, NL)
The Treaty of Amsterdam • 1997 • to reform EU institutions • to make Europe more powerful • to concentrate more resources on employment and the rights of citizens
