  3. Think about your “skill portfolio” • Project specific • Generic (writing, presentation skills, stats etc) • Teaching/supervision • Admin, safety • Outreach activities • Entrepreneurship

  4. Attend meetings • Broaden your horizons • Talk to people • Make contacts • What really interests you? Where do you want to be? Who do you want to work with?

  5. Think about what comes next • Discuss with your supervisor/colleagues/peers • Think about the options – there are many • Professional careers advice?

  6. Fellowships • Increasing numbers of fellowships for new post docs • Need to be planning in final year of PhD • Worth considering if you want a research career – and know what you want to do • Get in contact with faculty research office (Kristy Wonders) • Start planning now!

  7. All of these things are important… But not at the expense of a timely PhD submission!
