Chemical Engineer Polymers By Blake MacDonald Andrew Keddy
Education • The education required to become a polymer engineer would be a B.S. degree in chemical engineering. After this you would need to get experience in the field. • Internships are the best way to gain experience. • Any extra education, such as a Ph.D., is also highly recommended.
Job Locations • Many of the jobs are located where ever any of the polymer labs are located. • These are throughout the United States and are also located elsewhere such as Europe, and Japan. • Many tire companies employ, as well as toy manufactures.
What is a polymer? • A polymer is a chain of small molecules joined together in a repeating fashion to form new molecules. They create polymers to fulfill the requirements that the lab requested. • There are organic and synthetic polymers. • Some polymers include; all plastics, nylon, neoprene, Kevlar, rubber. They are in all aspects of daily life.
Chemistry Involved • The Most important aspect of their work is the organic syntheses of materials. • They Manipulate molecules so that they can receive the desired products. • They develop products with these differing characteristics; rigid, strong, durable, biodegradable, and thermal, electrical, and optical characteristics
