Importantfactorswhenchoosingsubjects • • Interests, talentsFuture Career University requirements PrIB courses may be important for Swedish universities. • Target country • UK – meet with Education UK • USA – meet with Education USA • Sweden – meet with Jonas • Tactics Some subjects are regarded as more time consuming, others • less. • Know your strengths, and select accordingly • Rule of thumb, high total GPA beats more courses/extra curricular activities. Maximize marginal utility/Diminishing marginal utility theory! • Focus on the whole rather than the specifics

  15. Entrance requirements for Sweden IB diploma gives the entrance requirements to higher education in Sweden. • The PriB courses cover the basic entrance requirements and the diploma covers the special qualification for specific university courses. • Note: Swe A1 (Group 1) is a requirement (thus not enough with Swe B HL) • If you do not have Swedish A1 in your IB diploma you can document your knowledge of Swedish with either:Swedish course 3 or Swedish as a second language course 3national program or Test in Swedish for University Studies, Tisus You must document your skills as above, even if you have Swedish as a native language

  16. Want to study abroad? • Your Pre-IB grades count! • More than just your grades, extracurriculars are important ... even if you don’t have CAS now • Lengthy admission process, start as early as possible • If you are really serious about it, start now. It can’t hurt your chances.

  19. Meritpoäng (+2,5p) / Merit points Modern languages (1.5 max): • Steg 3 ger 0,5 meritpoäng: (Steg 3 från Pre-IB) • Steg 4 ger 1,0 meritpoäng: Language B Standard level (SL) i examen (French, German, or Spanish in the IB) Engelska – everyone gets 1,0 p for their Eng. A or B Maths (max 1.5) – SL and HL gets a minimum of 1.0 See handout because merit points depend on university program requirements

  20. School Site Policy A total of 24 points in the IB1 spring grade report is required to be transferred to IB2. Furthermore, a grade 3 in a higher level subject is regarded as a “failing condition” in the IB grading system. A student with an overall absenteeism and /or individual subject absence of 20% or more is not considered a student in ”good standing” and according to the Coordinators Handbook of Procedure this student will not be registered for examinations. Cases of malpractice in IB1 will be handled with 1. lowering the grade one step in the term report 2. informing the parents. Cases of malpractice when scripts are related to the final examinations (mainly in IB2, but to some extent also in IB1) will be handled according to the IBO regulation.
