November 1577 We left Plymouth harbour with three galleons (the Pelican, the Elizabeth and the Marigold) and two supply ships (the Swan and the Christopher) but had to return owing to storms and strong winds off the coast of Cornwall. The ships were badly damaged and in need of repair.

March 1st 1579 We finally caught up with and captured the Spanish treasure ship, the Cacafuego. We took 36 kilograms of gold, 13 chests of silver coins, 26 tons of silver and many chests of jewels and pearls. We also took flour and other goods of great value.
