ACTION ACTON WORKING WITH ADULT OFFENDERS YOUNG OFFENDERS AND NEET YOUNG PEOPLE
Project /service description • To provide employment, education and training support for NEET young people, including those facing significant barriers • To engage young people actively in how the project can most effectively upskill them • To increase NEETs Employability and help them get Jobs.
Widening participation though IT • To use technology, on line, personalised training packages and social networking sites to increase coverage and impact. • To engage youth support organisations and young people in passing on skills, advice and Job opportunities. • To engage volunteers—adults and young people
Youth Employability There is no one size fits all model • The working life of 9-5 is far removed from the safety of classroom walls so young people often learn along the way and it is essential to teach them to transfer their life skills into employability skills

Managing expectations • Young people often get a rude awakening when they move into the world of work and their world of expectations and aspirations often come crashing down when they realise that they cant always get what they want. • What is important id they will always get what they need. • Young people need advice and support information to gain understanding the financial cost of working as well as the financial gain, for example the cost of lunch, travel and time. • Young people also need to be aware of the national minimum wage from the outset and aim to secure higher wage in reflection to their increased level of experience.
Skillz to pay the Billz • Transferable skillz – life skills to employment skillz • Its about training, volunteering and qualifications in order to better equip you for work and understanding your sector. • Earn as you learn – apprenticeships and work placements
Aspire for higher • It is important to treat every young person like a blank slate and tap into their interests and talents in order to create sustainable jobs that they are motivated to do and keep doing. • Every young person is someone's child • On one hand we bombard young people with stimulus such as music, media and technology on the other hand we try to contain their creativity and flair. Balance is the key.
Rights and responsibilities • It is essential that employers and employees know their rights • Young people are often aware of their rights but are slow to stand up to their responsibilities it is important to instil a strong work ethic and understanding of their value • It is essential to understand the access to industry and sector and the difference between a young person wants to do and a job title that fits.
