What are/is the ESA? • Departmental accreditation scheme with an awards element • Partnership project between EUSA and the University of Edinburgh • Run in conjunction with NUS’ Green Impact Universities scheme
The Criteria • Energy • Waste • Water • Food • Procurement • Travel • Biodiversity • Community • Wellbeing • Social responsibility
How does it work? • Covers whole sustainability agenda • Student-led approach • Supported by volunteer Student Ambassadors • Good communication • Staff / student collaboration • Recognises and celebrates individual and group achievements
Project Cycle Launch & Recruitment November 2011 Ambassadors encourage Departmental sign-up Evaluation Teams implement changes (with support from the Ambassadors) Celebration Ambassadors do audits
Bonus Criteria Carbon Footprint and Energy Saving on Campus Awards • Invites ideas from staff and students on how to reduce energy • Helps develop ideas through workshops led by TEU • Proposals judged by a panel and considered for a share of £50,000 Estates & Buildings funding
Timescales • ESA 2011/2012 Campaign Launch – Monday 14th November • Ambassadors all provided with a recruitment info “pack” and T shirt - by end of wk beginning 14th November 2011 • Departmental visits – begin shortly afterwards • First fortnightly catch-up session – 22nd November 2011 (then Dec TBC, 18th Jan, w/c 30th Jan, w/c 13th Feb, w/c 27th Feb) • Deadline first departmental sign-ups – 16th December 2011 • Workbook submissions – Friday 9th March 2012 • Audits – Training morning and audits afternoon of March • Awards ceremony – March 28th 2012

How to register • http://edinburgh.greenimpact.org.uk for 2010-11 workbook. Simply enter Example and Example in login and password • Once new website has been established and broadcast then Click ‘Register’ on the right hand side • Enter details about your team (username, total staff numbers, number of people on ESA group etc) • You will be sent a password via email • Log-in and change your password to something memorable • Share your details with the rest of your team
