ABOUT LEUSD Lake Elsinore Unified School District encompasses the cities of Lake Elsinore, Wildomar, Canyon Lake, and unincorporated Riverside county Student enrollment - 22,216 Thirteen (13) elementary schools, two (2) K-8 schools, four (4) middle schools, three (3) comprehensive high schools and four (4) alternative schools

ABOUT LEUSD • Since 2007 • Twelve (12) elementary, middle & high schools named California Distinguished Schools • Five schools (5) received the Title I Academic Achievement Award • Two (2) schools earned National Blue Ribbon Award • Ortega High School named Model Continuation School
HOW THE VISION STARTED • 2009-10 • Management Team read Disrupting Class • Joined INACOL • Attended INACOL Virtual School Symposium • Governing Board at CSBA heard online school presentation
GET READY… • 2009-10 • Virtual School Task Force established • VSTF researches and visits local online schools • Riverside Virtual School Pacific Coast Charter School • Choice 2000 National University Online HS • Switch to web-based Plato Credit Recovery curriculum • More than 100 teachers requested training • One (1) online course piloted in 2010 summer school; 75 students enroll with a waiting list
GET SET… • 2010-11 • The Virtual Learning Center is established • Three full-time teachers hired • Courses offered: Driver’s Education, Health, Algebra 1, Geometry • Virtual School Task Force expanded • March 2011 : Veronica was hired • Governing Board gives direction to establish a dependent charter school
…GO! • What is Southern California Online Academy? • Dependent public charter school, offering grades Kindergarten through 12th grade for the 2011-12 SY • Full-time public school • Students may reside in Riverside, Orange, San Bernardino, San Diego or Imperial County • A school that offers self-paced, individual instruction • A Hybrid program
When a student Enrolls • Assigned a certified teacher • Online Learning System with Accredited Curriculum • School administration • Special services • Skype & Speech • PTSA • Group outings, academic workshops and enrichment activities • Enrollment is Tuition Free
Teachers • Elementary (4) • Currently have 3 Elementary Teachers • Hiring a 4th within a few weeks • Middle School (2) • Currently have 1: 7/8th grade teacher Self contained multiple subject teacher • Hiring a 2nd 7/8th grade teacher • Teacher on Special Assignment ( Lead Teacher/Academic Coach) • High School (9) • Math/Science - Advance Math Courses • Social Science - Elective Fine Art • English/Spanish • PE/Health • Health/Biology • Math Credit Recovery • Driver’s Education
