  12. CONCEPT In many cultures, the peony is thought to represent romance and prosperity. When peonies blossom, they grow in single blooms. The client wanted to create a restaurant where singles like himself can meet and interact. He is a very independent man with specific tastes, as seen in the classic Camaro that he owns. This relates to the customers in my restaurant because it is a singles lounge reminiscent of the “classic” 80s era. The name Yesterday was given to my restaurant because it is where singles come to reminisce about their past, hence the retro environment. Learning about your significant other’s past helps you understand what they desire for their future and is the basis of social interaction for any successful relationship.

  13. BRANDING The logo was derived from an inspirational image of a peony flower. I then sketched my own interpretation of a peony flower. As I explored the sketch of the flower, I zoomed in on one of the petals and a leaf. This remaining image is symbolic of the silhouette of a kissing couple. Since this is a singles lounge, this imagery is appropriate.
