Search operators • And –retrieves records containing all of the words • Example: politics AND Canada • OR –retrieves records containing any of the words • Example: war OR conflict • “ ” -exact phrase • Example: “partisan politics” • *- truncation: retrieves all words that start with the letters entered. • Example: government* (government, governments, governmental) • ?- replaces one character in a word • Example: wom?n (retrieves woman OR women) NOTE: These apply to nearly all databases

11. Check the following: • Who is the author of this document? Is this person or organization expert in the field? • Are thegoalsof the sponsors/authors clearly stated? Look for possible bias. • Is this a peer-reviewed source?
