ADMISSIONS OVERVIEW

ACT or SAT score GPA
If a student has a 3.3 GPA and gets a 22 on the ACT then the Index Score is a 104.
Reasons to Retake the ACT • To improve your score for admissions • To avoid remedial coursework • To improve your score for scholarships • To qualify for NCAA athletic eligibility
ACT and SAT ACT costs $35 and the SAT costs $50 Some out of state schools and private schools may also require SAT subject tests (also called SAT II tests).
ACT Test Prep Mrs. Sestrich’s class $ 25 for 3 sessions or $ 10 each The 3 Saturdays before each ACT. Sign up in the Language Arts/Social Studies Resource Room
APPLICATION PROCESS
Application Process \ • Online applications • Make sure your files are complete - recommendations - essay - fee - transcripts / ACT scores
Online Applications \ • YOU must print out ANY forms your high school must complete - School Report Form - Teacher /Counselor Recommendation Form • Make sure your signature is on all forms beforeyou turn them into the College & Career Center
Specialty Applications • Out of State / Private Schools - they may have earlier deadlines, short answer and essays, extra letters of recommendation etc. • Selective Schools (CU Boulder, CSU Fort Collins) - always include “optional” essays / letters of recommendation unless your index score is 112 or higher
Admissions Essay • Engage the reader, be original! • Make sure you write to the prompt • Be genuine! • Don’t repeat all your activities! Instead, choose a specific instance from your life that you can use to describe yourself and what you have learned. • Explain any weak points on your transcript • Proofread, proofread, proofread!
Letters of Recommendation • Make sure know which colleges require a letter. • Don’t ask for more letters than you need. • Fill out the specific form for teachers or your counselor • Check back that the teacher submitted it through Naviance (you won’t be able to request transcripts until this is done) • Remember to give your teacher 3 weeks notice and say thank you!

Then What? Once you have submitted an application you still need to request your transcripts! Your April ACT scores are automatically sent with your grades.

Ask for Help!! Counselors will call each senior in for a conference to see what your plans are and what steps you need to take. (Please be patient) Go to the College & Career Center for help with transcripts. Make an appointment with your counselor if you have questions about an application, scholarship, etc. if you need help before your scheduled senior conference.
