3. Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2) Semi-structured Standardized Assesses communication, social interaction, play/imaginative use of materials, and restricted/repetitive behaviors “Gold Standard” observational assessment for diagnosing autism spectrum disorders

4. ADOS Modules • Examiners observe behaviors that are directly relevant to the diagnosis of ASD at different developmental levels and chronological ages. • Toddler Module: 12-30 months of age • Module 1 – 31 months and older, single word speech • Module 2 – Children of any age, phrase speech • Module 3 – Children and young adolescents, verbally fluent • Module 4 – Older adolescents and adults, verbally fluent

5. Administration • Administration time is 40-60 minutes • Clients asked to complete a variety of tasks such as: • Telling stories • Engaging in imaginative play • Engaging in reciprocal social interaction • Solving puzzles • Tasks are adjusted for age, developmental level, and language abilities

6. Scoring • Three categories of scores make up the final “ADOS-2 comparison score,” a score used to determine if the child is autistic, on the autism spectrum or non spectrum. • Language and Communication • Speech abnormalities, conversation skills, use of gestures, ability to communicate information, etc. • Reciprocal Social Interaction • Eye contact, facial expressions, empathy, social insight, etc. • Stereotyped behaviors and Restricted Interests • Unusual sensory interests, excessive interest in highly specific topics, compulsions, rituals, etc. • Additional scoring for Imagination, Agitation, Disruptive Behavior and Anxiety

Social Skills Group Curriculum The MindUP Curriculum, created by The Hawn Foundation and Scholastic, is a research based approach to helping children learn about their brain in order to be mindful and consciously aware. Children specifically learn: • Self-Awareness: assessing feelings, interests, values, strengths, and maintaining self-confidence • Self-Management: regulating emotions to handle stress, control impulses, and persevere • Social Awareness: understanding different perspectives and empathizing with others • Relationship Skills: maintaining healthy relationships, resisting inappropriate peer pressure, resolving conflicts, and seeking help • Responsible Decision Making: learning to use a variety of resources in order to make good decisions www.genesiscounselingcenter.com

Who are We? • Genesis currently has three outpatient counseling offices in Hampton, Williamsburg, and Chesapeake, VA. • The Genesis’ clinicians (currently over 30) are Psychologists, LPC’s, LMFT’s, LCSW’s, and residents. • We provide outpatient counseling, psychological testing, and neurofeedback services. • Genesis’ Residents serve at Lackey Free Clinic and Youth Challenge. • Our mission is to touch and inspire more lives, in more parts of the world, more completely. www.genesiscounselingcenter.com
