Notes on using DFMA software - Loading • Step-by-step loading a file into any DFMA software: • Download a given file from our file server (ex. http://licpwww.epfl.ch/cours/DFX/Project1_Motor_Assembly/given_files//motor without comments.dfa) and save it to your personal folder (ex. \\studentspc7\MyDocs\EDOC\lazar\My Documents\\DFA_Cours\Project_2_Motor_Assembly - folder accessible also from • My Documents) • Copy this file to folder C:\VMWshare • Start virtual machine as described previously (slide 1,2) • Start the required DFMA software (ex. Design for Assembly 9.1) as described previously (slide 3) • Open the file by accessing the File/Open menu (ex. Motor without comments.dfa) in Design for Assembly from My Network Places//Entire Network/VMShared Folders/.host/Shared Folders/Share in the virtual machine environment (slide 4a).
Notes on using DFMA software - Saving • Step-by-step saving a file from any DFMA software: • In Design for Assembly (as example) save the working file as “motor with comments.dfa” in My Network Places/Entire Network/VMShared Folders//.host/Shared Folders/Share or to Desktop/Share (in the virtual machine environment). • Close Design for Assembly and shut-down the virtual machine • Using Windows Explorer on the local machine go to folder C:\VMWshare • Copy the file “motor with comments.dfa” from this folder to your personal folder (ex: \\studentspc7\MyDocs\EDOC\lazar\\My Documents\DFA_Cours\Project_2_Motor_Assembly - folder accessible also from My Documents) • Delete the content of the C:\VMWshare folder. 6
Notes on using DFMA software - Exception • To open a file from the shared folder into Design for Environment (DFE) one need to map a network drive with the folder, following the instruction: • On the virtual machine start Design for Environment software. On menu, select Worksheet/Open DFA Analysis or File/Open (and select all files type) and press “Network…” button • In Map Network Drive window press Browse and select the shared folder (My Network Places/Entire Network/VMShared Folders/.host/Shared Folders/Share). Press Ok, and Finish in Map Network Drive window. • You will be able to access the shared folder on the drive Z: (or other letter that you might have assigned to the network drive) as in figure a). a b 7
