    2. Overview of National Forensic Laboratory Information System Accumulates drug analysis results from state and local crime labs. Database consists of over 8 million cases and drug items; case level data elements dating back to 1998. Currently, 276 of our Nation’s approximately 320 state and local labs have joined NFLIS; 261 labs are reporting regularly.

    4. National Annual Counts of Drug Cases and Current NFLIS Participation

NFLIS Primary Purpose Provide accurate, chemically verified data in support of drug scheduling Supplement/complement other databases (e.g. DAWN, NSDUH, etc.) Compatible with DEA laboratory database System to Retrieve Information from Drug Evidence (STRIDE) Support federal, state and international actions

    6. Other NFLIS Data Uses Source of “supply-side” data for federal, state and local authorities Provide information on drug trafficking and abuse patterns; national regional, and local levels Identify changes in drug distribution geographically and over time Provide information about the diversion of drugs Identify emerging drugs of abuse and changes in drug availability Support national and local drug policy initiatives
