Endura: 2011 Sunflower Head Rot Research Discussion Kent McKay – BASF Tech Service Rep June 22nd, 2011 Deadwood, SD
Endura® Fungicide • Endura: Boscalid, unique mode of action • Fungicide group 7: carboxamides • Wide spectrum of labeled crops and the control of various diseases on the label • Very effective in control of Sclerotinia / white mold in a number of crops
Sunflower Head Rot Fungicide Research • Morden, Manitoba; Khalid Rashid • NDSU Langdon, ND; Scott Halley • NDSU Carrington, ND; Blaine Schatz, Sam Markell • Irrigated and inoculated for high disease pressure
Sunflower Head Rot Fungicide Research • 2008 – 2010 University based fungicide research results indicated that Boscalid (Endura, Lance) was very consistent and very effective in controlling head rot in sunflower compared to other fungicides
Endura® Fungicide Update • 2011 Canada: Minor use registration for Lance (Boscalid) in sunflowers as a preventive head rot treatment, one application per season • Continue to conduct sunflower head rot studies with NDSU in 2011 • Sunflower on the Endura Master label, so all the residue work has been completed • 2011 ND Endura aerial fungicide demonstration trials planned
2011 Endura Aerial Trials • Large scale, 20 – 40 acre aerial Endura sunflower head rot trials • Eight locations from NW Minnesota to north central, ND • Application rate needs to be defined • Timing of application • The benefit of multiple applications • Confection sunflowers and oil sunflowers
2011 Endura Aerial Trials • Head rot incidence will be measured by NDSU and BASF Tech Service • Seed yield an quality (percent sclerotia) will also be measured • Develop fungicide management guidelines for the use of Endura for head rot suppression in sunflower
