  10. The Cow Analogy: Our Classroom Norms 1. What happens in each of the five rounds? Round 1: Very few, if any, see it straight away Round 2: Direct instruction works for a few Round 3: Questioning moves everyone forward Round 4: Majority sees with direct explanation Round 5: Everyone sees when helping partner 2. Are you “smarter” than someone if you see the cow first? 3. What is your responsibility when you see the cow? 4. What kind of student will not see the cow? If you don’t see the cow, don’t leave the room!

  13. Grading • Quizzes 15% (expect a little one every week) • Tests 25% (2 each 9 weeks) • Classwork 35% (Questions from Springboard/Packet/Textbook or Notebook check) • Homework 25% (IXL, USA Test Prep, Worksheets, Springboard, practice tests and questions)

  14. Essentials and Emergencies • No Food or Drink by the computers • Take Bathroom Pass and Sign Out – no more than once per week. • Do not leave class without permission /pass. • Fire Drill Procedure: meeting area by batting cages. Bring sign and attendance • Lock Down: remain silent, no electronics

  15. REMEMBER THE COW • We don’t know everything right away • Just being told doesn’t make it clear. • Asking Questions is essential. • A teacher can guide you, but you still need to work • Working together, we can all learn

  17. What is an AXIOM or POSTULATE? "Let the following be postulated": • "To draw a straight line from any point to any point." • "To produce [extend] a finite straight line continuously in a straight line." • "To describe a circle with any centre and distance [radius]." • "That all right angles are equal to one another." • The parallel postulate: "That, if a straight line falling on two straight lines make the interior angles on the same side less than two right angles, the two straight lines, if produced indefinitely, meet on that side on which are the angles less than the two right angles."
