  1. Unit: Sound and Light Lesson 3: Wireless Communication Essential Questions: 1.) How do radio waves transmit information? 2.) How does a cell phone work? 3.) How does satellite communication work?

  2. What are the two broadcasting signals? Amplitude modulation (AM waves)- change in amplitude

  3. Frequency modulation (FM waves)- change in frequency

  4. How does a cell phone work? Cell phones transmit and receive signals using high frequency microwaves.

  5. A cell phone sends out microwaves tagged with a unique phone number. • 2. A tower picks up the microwaves • and sends it to a hub. • 3.The hub sends the microwaves to • either a tower or a hub. • 4. The signal is transmitted to the receiving • cell phone. • The receiver’s phone rings when it picks up the signal.
