ABSTRACT The effect of ZnO on effectivity in vitro and acceptability of oxybenzone and octyl dimethyl PABA (3 : 3 % w/w) combination in vanishing cream base as sunscreen material Oxybenzone and octyl dymethyl PABA are chemical sunscreen’s agent and ZnO is physical sunscreen’s agent. When three of sunscreen’s agent above is combined, it would increase SPF’s value and widest protection range. The aim of this research is to measure effectivity in vitro and determine acceptability of oxybenzone and octyl dimethyl PABA (3 : 3 % w/w) combination in vanishing cream base as sunscreen material which added with ZnO (5, 15 and 25 % w/w). The effectivity evaluated by SPF’s value with measure 10 ppm absorption spectrophotometri using isopropanol as solvent. Whereas the acceptability evaluated by calculated total score of each criteria in every aspec which was examined in some people. The result showed that ZnO 5 % w/w was decreased SPF’s value and ZnO 15 and 25 % w/w was increased SPF’s value oxybenzone and octyl dimethyl PABA (3 : 3 % w/w) combination in vanishing cream base as sunscreen material. The additional of ZnO (5, 15 and 25 % w/w) also reduced acceptability of oxybenzone and octyl dimethyl PABA (3 : 3 % w/w) combination in vanishing cream base as sunscreen material. Keyword : oxybenzone, octyl dimethyl PABA, SPF, vanishing cream.
