  9. To Summarise • Our goals are tough • Our challenges are many • Our resources are reduced • Our commercial landscape is in flux

  10. So why did we invest in Business Intelligence now>?! • In tough economic times with high resource restrictions in is difficult to focus on implementing business intelligence systems. • In reality there is no better time… true reform means not only righting our economic ship but also pursuing the strategies which will ensure our success into the future • The organisation that is circling a reactive loop never invests in the future and only make its situation less tenable

  11. Would you buy this car to go to a foreign country? • No sat nav? • No fuel gauge? • No speedo? • No thanks….

  12. OBIEE Provides • The opportunity to provide managers with intuitive dashboards to drive the business – focusing on what matters • The means to provide cross-database analyses • Without the need for manual data extraction or collation

  13. Does this sound familiar? • Disconnected IT systems • Loads of data going into systems but very little information coming out • An army of spreadsheets and people working on them containing data which you do not trust and cannot collate without time consuming consolidation exercises • A small handful of IT specialists funnelling a large demand for specialist reports

  14. The answer? • One system gateway to the information from ALL of your clinical and finance systems, enabling cross system analysis • OBIEE Repository

  15. The answer? • One system where report writing is drag and drop - simple, intuitive and fast • OBIEE Answers

  16. The answer? • One system that enables intuitive analysis via powerful drill functionality and a vast variety of intuitive report layouts • Answers / Dashboard

  17. The answer? • One system that integrates into Office Suite and has a variety of automated delivery features • Oracle BI for Microsoft Office

  18. Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition + • Hate the name, love the solution!

  19. 20. Thanks to Connecting for Health • We were able to call off licenses and prove that the solution worked for us • Over six months on a test server we trialled the functionality • When I had proved to the Business that this was the solution for the Trust then we started an implementation project • OBIEE sold itself to our end user community

  21. Investment Payback • Cost of the total investment will payback in the first year of use • Manual collation and distribution of reports • Release of Management Accounts time • Release of clinical time • Superior Management Information • Timely

  22. Our Resources for this project • 1 DBA’s time to configure servers • Myself – as OBIEE developer • Servers and disk space – costing less than £50,000 • Time with key stakeholders to ascertain business needs

  23. So what have we done with it now? • ERIS Solution – A complete suite of Financial Reports • A single solution serving 750 end users with cost centre / parent securitised reports • Traditional Budget Report and Nominal Roll Details • Extensive new functionality • Exception Reports • Gauges with drill functionality • High level summary down to sub-ledger data

  24. Budget Report

  25. Exception Reports – greatest to least variances

  26. Drill down gauges

  27. And are the users happy? David Fox – Directorate Manager Oncology and Physics “The new system is friendly and easy to use. I can easily see access and extract information….. BUT - ”

  28. “This has meant that I am finding more things I would like it to do with it…..” With an earlier system users were reluctant to use it due to speed and complexity – This is the crucial difference that OBIEE has made. Budgetary analysis has been made fast and easy and the tool is addictive… It is a pleasure to find out that your users are asking for more!

  29. What else have we done with it? • Peer to peer benchmarking analysis • Prompt payment code statistics • Debtor / Cash cycle monitoring • Cashflow • Balance Sheet • Revenue • Emulate any budget holders ‘Eris’ experience to stand in their shoes…

  30. What next? • Organisation wide KPIs • Clinical • Financial • HR • Monitor reports for FT • More focus on income • Inventory line analysis • Cost per case reports – activity based reports
